We have appointed Oliver Johnston to head up the new look commercial department.
Oliver has joined the ranks as the new head of commercial for Cheshire and North Wales, based at our headquarters in Ewloe. He is one of four new appointments and joins us alongside senior quantity surveyors Mitch Andrews and Aled Roberts and quantity surveyor Jacob Edwards.
Within the same department, there’s also been promotions for Jack Wynne from buyer to assistant quantity surveyor and Shane Macdonald from trainee to buyer, demonstrating our commitment to encouraging personal development and career progression within the business.
After leaving school, Oliver pursued a career in the Army, serving in the Royal Military Police. When he left the army in 2014, he chose a career in construction and joined housebuilder Taylor Wimpey as a trainee quantity surveyor. Alongside his day job, he also gained a HNC with distinction in construction, followed by a first-class honours degree in quantity surveying from the University of Salford.
“During my nine years at Taylor Wimpey, I progressed from a trainee to commercial manager, before I decided to join Anwyl Homes.
“Anwyl is renowned within the industry as a long-standing, family-run business that delivers high quality homes. The opportunity to take the next step in my career by joining such a reputable housebuilder, with a clear vision for sustainable growth and development, was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.”
In a more challenging housing market, Olivers’ role of ensuring the business has a robust approach to its finances is more important than ever.
“As head of commercial for the Cheshire and North Wales region, my key aim is to ensure the business has a robust build cost base and can accurately report on cost movement and cash flow. With several new and upcoming developments in the pipeline, we’re continuing to work closely with our trusted sub-contractors and supply chain to achieve best total value for the business.”
A keen runner and member of Warrington Running Club, Oliver lives with his wife Nikkie and cockapoo Chester in Great Sankey, Warrington. He is also a season ticket holder for Warrington Wolves.
Phil Dolan, managing director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said:
“With almost a decade of experience in the commercial department of another major housebuilder, and extensive professional skills gained in the military, Oliver is an asset to our team. We have some great developments coming up and, with our raft of recent commercial team appointments, remain in a strong position in the market.”
