Pupils from St James’ Church of England Primary School in Audlem visited Anwyl Homes’ Heathfields development, on Audlem Road, to learn all about construction.
The eight and nine year olds are currently reading a book called Demolition Dad and with the aim of bringing the book to life, the school contacted Anwyl Homes requesting a site visit to Heathfields, which is just a short walk away.
The construction experience started with an informative talk by Stephen Daniels, SHEQ Advisor at Anwyl Homes, on the most import health and safety issues on site.
The children were then shown a forklift truck and a digger and learnt about how various pieces of machinery on a building site work, as well as the various tradesmen that work on a building site and the materials required to build a house.
Mr Davies, Year 4 Teacher at St James’ Church of England Primary School, comments: “The visit to Heathfields was invaluable for the children. They learnt so much about construction and what is entailed in building a new home, as well as the importance of health and safety on site.
“They thoroughly enjoyed the trip, which linked perfectly to the book they are currently reading in class, and particularly liked meeting the various tradesmen and seeing them hard at work.”
Marketing Manager at Anwyl Homes, Claire Anwyl adds: “It was a pleasure to welcome pupils from St James’ to Heathfields. We are always happy to host informative site visits for local children, enhancing their learning journey where possible, and hope the pupils enjoyed their experience on site.”
