Anwyl boosts food bank charity with £53,710 donation

Flintshire based Anwyl Group has donated more than £50,000 to food banks across North Wales and the North West of England with support from its suppliers and contractors.

The family business, based at St David’s Park, Ewloe, has marked its 90th anniversary by boosting the coffers of 16 local food banks within the Trussell Trust network, helping families in need across its operational areas of North Wales, Cheshire, Merseyside and Lancashire.

Half of the money was raised through ticket sales for Anwyl’s anniversary celebration event, which sadly had to be cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. Fortunately, many of the company’s generous suppliers, partners and subcontractors agreed to donate their ticket value to ensure the funds still reached the Trussell Trust, which is working to end hunger and poverty in the UK. Anwyl Group then matched the total raised by donating a further £26,855.

Graham Anwyl, Chairman of Anwyl Group, said: “We were disappointed when our 90th anniversary charity dinner couldn’t go ahead. While the event had been billed as a birthday celebration, we had always hoped that we could raise lots of money for charity too.

“In planning this event, we could not have foreseen the enormous impact that the Coronavirus pandemic would have this past year on all of our lives. Charities in particular have suffered hugely and, with the help of so many of the companies we work with, we’re delighted to be able to donate this tremendous amount to The Trussell Trust, which is working to end hunger in the UK.”

The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks and together they provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and also campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

Samantha Stapley, chief operating officer at the Trussell Trust, said: “Thank you to Anwyl Group for their support. As the pandemic continues, more people are likely to need a food bank’s help. Food bank teams are working tirelessly to ensure help continues to be available. But ultimately, no one in the UK should need a food bank – all of us should have enough money for the essentials. The support of Anwyl Group will help food banks within our network continue to provide the lifeline of emergency support for local people in crisis, while we work in the long term to build a hunger free future.”

Anwyl has made a total of 16 donations of £3,356 to the following foodbanks:

  • The Flintshire Food Bank
  • The Wrexham Food Bank
  • Rhyl Food Bank
  • Abergele District Food Bank
  • Anglesey Food Bank
  • West Cheshire Food Bank

Anwyl Homes’ Team Climbs The Career Ladder

Ewloe-based Anwyl Homes has promoted four members of its sales and marketing team to management roles, continuing its strong track record of promoting from within.

Thomas Bradley has progressed to senior sales manager, Alice Edwards and Phoebe Davies have both been appointed as marketing managers for the Cheshire and North Wales and the Lancashire regions respectively and Carmel Duffy is now sales office manager.

Thomas, from Knutsford, previously worked as a sales manager for a major housebuilder before joining Anwyl Homes’ Cheshire and North Wales region in the same role two years ago.

He said:

It’s great to be part of a growing company and see the progress made in just the two years since I joined. We’ve all played our part in coming through a very challenging year in a strong position, having implemented lots of new procedures to keep our staff and customers safe. I’m looking forward to supporting the team with further expansion.

Alice, from Hawarden, has previously worked as a digital marketing officer at Denbighshire County Council and as a freelance social media coordinator for MoneySuperMarket.com before joining Anwyl as a marketing coordinator three years ago.

Anwyl’s strong brand and reputation was a big factor in my decision to join the company. The quality of our homes is exceptional and it’s been fantastic to be part of a team that is growing our brand across Cheshire and North Wales, while competing with some big brand names. We want to continue to find innovative ways to reach our consumers through new digital products and platforms.

Phoebe, from Mold, is Alice’s opposite number for the Lancashire region although the pair work closely on Anwyl’s marketing plans. Phoebe joined Anwyl almost three years ago as a marketing coordinator from another major housebuilder.

For over a decade, Carmel Duffy, from Prestatyn, worked as a home advisor across many of Anwyl’s developments in the Cheshire and North Wales region before taking on the role of sales coordinator five years ago. Her vast experience stands her in good stead for her new role as sales office manager. She said:

I enjoy speaking to our customers and helping them to achieve their dream move to a new home. Every day is different and comes with a new challenge, which I love. It’s very much a team effort.

Phil Dolan, managing director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said:

We have a strong company ethos of promoting from within and rewarding colleagues for their hard work and commitment. This last year has been hugely challenging for everyone and our industry has had to adapt quickly to find new ways of working. The sales and marketing team has been very successful in helping to create a safe environment for our home advisors and customers on site. They have also designed effective new ways to reach our customers, such as our Access All Areas videos which give customers the digital tools to explore our newly launched developments.

Anwyl Group take gold safety standard for eighth year running

The Anwyl Group has once again reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the highest health & safety standards, having secured its eighth consecutive RoSPA Gold award.

Considered the ultimate achievement in health and safety standards, organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice.

Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants endeavour to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running Health & Safety industry awards. Gold medals are only presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over a number of consecutive years.

Tom Anwyl, Director of Health & Safety at Anwyl Group commented:

This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the huge efforts of the entire team in their shared commitment to ensuring safety remains our number one priority.
Achieving the Gold standard for eight consecutive year is truly outstanding. We have secured this under unusual and challenging conditions, during the pandemic, which makes this year’s award that extra bit special. Well done to everyone at Anwyl Partnerships and the wider Anwyl Group who made this happen!

The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations around the world, making it one of the most sought-after global accolades in health and safety.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said:

RoSPA wants every employee, wherever they are, to work safe in the knowledge that they will be going home unharmed and healthy at the end of every day. The RoSPA Award winners are vital to help achieve this goal, as by entering they are driving up standards and setting new benchmarks for organisations everywhere. Currently, around 7million people are directly impacted by the RoSPA Awards, but the scheme’s influence is even wider.

Anwyl boosts Ty Gobaith’s Easter egg appeal

Anwyl Group  has donated 90 Easter eggs to Tŷ Gobaith’s annual appeal, which sees the hospice turn the chocolate into cash to help fund the services it provides. They also give some of the Easter eggs to the brothers and sisters of children in the hospice when visiting.

Anwyl has been a long-standing supporter of Tŷ Gobaith/Hope House, regularly fundraising for the children’s hospices which are based in Conwy and Oswestry.

Currently celebrating its 90th anniversary, and with a year of special events and initiatives to mark the milestone, Anwyl wanted to support Tŷ Gobaith’s latest fundraising appeal and made the fitting donation of 90 Easter eggs.

Eluned M Yaxley, from Tŷ Gobaith, comments:

“Every week three local families face their biggest fear and their child dies. We at Tŷ Gobaith and Hope House cannot stop children dying. When they’re facing the most devastating loss of their lives we must be there. We must reach every child, mum, dad, sister and brother.

“As a charity we need an annual income of over £6.5 million to meet the needs of all who rely on us and almost all of this is raised voluntarily. We’re delighted to have been working with Anwyl for over 20 years as a charitable partnership and together with their generous support and enthusiasm and that of the wider community, we will ensure that no one suffers the loss of a child alone.

“The Easter eggs that have been donated by Anwyl will be used to raise money for the hospice and be given to the brothers and sisters of our children who visit us at Tŷ Gobaith.”

Claire Anwyl, marketing manager at Anwyl Homes, adds:

“For many years we have raised money for Tŷ Gobaith, supporting the excellent work they do with local families. With the company celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, we thought a donation of 90 Easter eggs was a suitable way to support the appeal.”

Established for 90 years, Anwyl Group has three divisions; Anwyl Homes, Anwyl Partnerships and Anwyl Land. With offices in North Wales and Lancashire, the family-run business is renowned for its thoughtful approach, bringing care and integrity to all aspects of every project in order to exceed expectations and ensure complete satisfaction for customers.

Celebrating apprentices on National Apprentice week!

This week Anwyl Group is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2020, a government lead initiative that aims to celebrate diversity in apprenticeships and the benefits they bring.

Apprenticeships have long played an important role across the Anwyl Group, through a retained commitment to the training and development of young people, coupled with the creation of sustainable employment opportunities.

Currently Anwyl Partnerships employ 13 apprentices across various parts of the organisation including skilled trades such as joinery, technical/design, site management and accounting. Whilst additionally encouraging and creating new apprenticeship opportunities amongst their supply chain partners, forming a large part of their commitment to local employment when delivering a project.

Ensuring that we have the right people, resources and skills to continue to deliver quality projects is vital to our business moving forward.

We recognise the importance of supporting young people who are keen to get into the world of work but still aspire to gain higher level qualifications. Providing apprenticeship opportunities allows these young people to explore a path to learning that successfully combines hands on, practical and classroom based learning.

Apprentices are incredibly important to so many businesses and organisations and this week gives us the opportunity to celebrate our own team and the wider initiative.”

– Tom Anwyl, Managing Director of Anwyl Partnerships explained.

Now in its 13th year, this year National Apprenticeship Week is promoting the theme, ‘Look Beyond’ which celebrates the diversity in apprenticeships today.

Adam Bragg is an apprentice based at the companies head quarters in Flintshire and is currently studying for his AAT level 2, ready to progress to level 3 later in 2020 with the view to complete the qualification in July 2022.

I joined Anwyl as an Accounts Apprentice following completing my work experience here last June. I’m really enjoying working and being part of the team whilst getting lots of experience and gaining my qualifications in this field. I hope my apprenticeship will set me up for a long lasting and successful career.”

– Adam Bragg, Accounts Apprentice at Anwyl Group.

‘Good Partnership’ with the Goodwash Co!

Anwyl Partnerships’ collaboration with Welsh Social Enterprise, the Goodwash Company, has realised a fantastic £1,000 charitable spend 12 months on.

The business opted to switch from a high street retailer at the end of 2018 to instead use the Goodwash co as its sole hand wash and lotion supplier. This first year of partnership as seen an annual spend of around £2,000, with all profits incurred being used to support two local charities.

The Goodwash Co specialises in the manufacturing and creation of luxury, natural skin care products underpinned by the ethos, ‘change the world, one wash at a time‘. Goodwash invest 100% of their profits into local projects which go towards improving the lives of those living in nearby communities.

Anwyl have opted for North Wales children’s hospice Ty Gobaith to receive 50% of the funding, whilst remaining funds have been projected into the Goodwash Foundation and used to support a local group for adults with learning difficulties, helping relaunch the weekly ‘Picasso club’ and football club.

We’re so pleased that we took the decision to switch to the Goodwash. One year on and we are able to really see the difference such a simple switch in something seemingly so minor in our business has made. This is a brilliant social enterprise that we are proud to support and we look forward to growing this partnership further, with some exciting ideas forming for the year ahead.”

– Natalie Palframan, Marketing & Community Engagement Executive at Anwyl Partnerships.

Thank you so much to Anwyl for their support, we very much look forward to building on the relationship further in 2020. The activities Anwyl are supporting really make so many people smile, their spends are making a massive difference.”

– Kelly Davies, Co-Founder of the Goodwash co.

Anwyl Partnerships on site at £3.5m affordable housing development

Anwyl Partnerships, specialists in the provision of residential land and build developments, has commenced construction at its latest affordable housing scheme on the site of the former Edelweiss Hotel in Colwyn Bay.

The former hotel was demolished, making way for re-development. Work is underway to create 31 apartments including 14 one-bedroom and 17 two-bedroom homes, helping to bridge the housing gap in the area.

ClwydAlyn acquired the site several years prior and appointed Anwyl Partnerships as its preferred construction partner, marking the 3rd project Anwyl is currently on site with for the social housing provider.

The carefully designed development sits on a 0.5 acre site replacing what the derelict hotel, which has been subject to vandalism and anti-social behaviour for many years since closure in 2009.

This development is going to be a fantastic edition to Colwyn Bay, providing a number of quality homes for local people. We are underway with construction work and are expected to achieve completion in September this year.”

– Tom Anwyl, Managing Director of Anwyl Partnerships.

Throughout the construction programme, we will be working closely with ClwydAlyn to ensure that the work we carry out will have a lasting and positive impact on the local community through the creation of new jobs and training opportunities whilst boosting the local economy through utilising a locally sourced supply chain.”

Added Tom.

Initial stages of masonry are now underway with construction works focusing on the ground floor of the new building. The scheme included extensive enabling works prior to commencement of construction, providing stability to the site and adjacent areas and protecting the nearby woodland and river. A rock face on the site perimeter was carefully excavated and crushed, the waste material from which was used as fill for a ‘green’ retaining wall around the site boundary.

This is an exciting development in the town that demonstrates our on-going commitment towards the regeneration of Colwyn Bay as well as Conwy county and the surrounding area.
The development also helps address the shortage of quality affordable housing in Conwy, and we’re delighted to see construction under way with the support of Conwy Council and the Welsh Government.”

– Craig Sparrow, ClwydAlyn’s Executive Director of Development.

Anwyl Partnerships submit plans for latest residential scheme

Anwyl Partnerships submits plans for its latest development off Greenheys Road, Wallasey, Wirral.

Anwyl Partnerships, specialists in the provision of affordable housing, extra care and land and build developments, is partnering with a local housing association to deliver the development, which will include 53 affordable modern retirement living apartments, set within extensive landscaped grounds and private gardens.
